WHAT ARE THESE SYMBOLS IN THE NAVIGATION BAR
Search details window
This is especially helpful to understand why you are seeing certain restaurants in your list when you’ve searched for something with many words. In this example, we ran a search with the “Foodie on a Budget” Mood for “Fried Chicken and Waffles” When you are looking at the results page, you’ll see a little link that breaks down what exactly Outseeker found based on your search.
Outseeker does its best to balance all of the different factors that go in to getting you the answer to “Where should I go to eat?” as quickly as possible. Because there is so much that goes into the decision, Outseeker makes certain assumptions with the information that you provide. After you select a Mood you have the option of entering in more information about the cuisine, style, country, or even a particular restaurant that you may want to go to.
Because we all know what happens when you assume, “Advanced Search” as an option for you to tell Outseeker more. You can find it underneath the form that you search with after you enter in your search term(s). When you select “Advanced Search” you’ll find two sliders: the first tells us that the information is more or less important than we assume; the second is telling us whether or not what you’re asking for should be searched as a phrase or as individual words.
For example, if you were to search for the restaurant “Thai One On,” a sandwich shop in NYC, we understand that you are probably looking for all of those words — that “Thai One On” is what you want. However, maybe you’re looking for Thai food but there is a better option. So, we look for “Thai” and not just “Thai One On.”
My search results aren't quite right...
It is really easy to adjust the search so that it gets you a little closer to what you’re looking for. Using the navigation bar at the top of the screen, return to the search page. You’ll see a button that says “More Controls” and you should click that. Depending on what isn’t quite right about the results you’ve seen, you can use the various sliders to explain more clearly to Outseeker what you’re really looking for. Run your search again and see if that helps. The advantage of our sliders is that you can really get to the heart of what you’re looking for faster than any other search method available today.
If you see things in your results that you shouldn’t just let us know. We are always making adjustments to the way Outseeker gets your to the right place. Simply use the Feedback button in the top right of the navigation bar and let us know what is going on.
Why are restaurants with higher grades lower on the list?
Because….. Outseeker takes into account your location, and orders your choices with this in mind. Depending on what you tell Outseeker about DISTANCE, you may be shown closer restaurants with lower grades higher on your list than more distant restaurants with higher grades.
Why are all the restaurants near me rated low?
The Outseeker Grade is an overall measure of the quality of this restaurant, based on your current preferences for Cost, Value Sensitivity, Cuisine, etc. It is relative to all restaurants in your city that match your search criteria. The distance from your location does not affect this grade. However, Outseeker uses the distance (and your preference for how important closeness is to you) to decide which restaurants to show to you. This is why you will sometimes see restaurants with low grades — there are better choices available, but they are farther away.
I don’t see my favorite restaurant OR I don’t see a restaurant in the list that should be
It’s hard to say exactly why without knowing about your search. There are many factors that go into the choices Outseeker offers to you. Send us a note by clicking the Feedback button in the navigation bar and we’ll happily take a look for you.
